Hello, hello!
Anime expo just ended last weekend and this is the weekend before Warped Tour so I am ridiculously hyped right now. I think my mood is also because I’ve been practicing better habits this month so there’s that too haha. Below are some good habits I started this month of July and how these apps specifically helped me maintain these good habits.
Good habit #1 :
🌸 Daily Journaling
Journaling helps me practice gratitude and helps me pin point the highlights of my life to remind me that I am blessed and lucky to live the life I have.
It reminds me that each day has a highlight and it helps me feel positive at the end of the day. I tried to keep a physical journal but I’m a really visual person and need lots of pictures and also want to be able to journal anywhere and at anytime without having to carry around a book that I might accidentally leave somewhere and what if someone accidentally finds it 😂 so no thank you.
I tried so many Journaling apps over the years and none of them have ever been as good as the app called Day One. I found this app last month at the end of June and it has helped me so much because it helps me count my wins and jot down my gratitudes.
I can upload photos and it registers the time stamps and locations of where and when those photos were taken so I can even journal photos from months ago which is pretty neat! I love this app and it’s free. When you download it, you just have to click past the subscription so you can use the free option.
Good habit #2 :
🌸 Drinking enough water
Water is good for you and our bodies run on water because we are made of water. Did I say water enough times? Because I’ve been drinking tons of water for the past month and a half now and I think it’s working?
I didn’t drink enough water for the weekend of Anime Expo and then I broke out like crazy LOL 🤣😭. So this month I started using this app to track how much water I drink and it has helped me tremendously.
The app is Water Buddy and when you sign up, it calculates how much water you need to drink daily based on your height, weight and activeness. It can also remind you with push notifications so it’s like actually having a buddy tell you to get up and drink some water every couple hours and you can set the notification frequency or turn it off entirely.
It’s free and you can enter in your own custom amount you’re drinking and watch as your phone screen fills up with digital water and it splashes around as you tilt your phone so it’s super fun to look at too.
Good habit #4 :
🌸 Tracking how much sugar and salt I eat
I’ve been talking to an old friend who is a Registered Dietitian and she’s been helping me deal with my fears of certain foods. I started using the MyFitnessPal app again because it helps me see just how much sugar and salt certain foods have so I can feel less scared to eat them because they fit within my recommended daily amounts.
There’s a search bar you can type the name of the food you are eating or if it’s a packaged food with a barcode, you can scan that too.
Good habit #3 :
🌸 Locking/Setting timers on certain phone apps
I watched a video last month about how we should really stop starting and ending our day scrolling through social media. It sounded pretty relevant to me (especially for night time) because that’s my most vulnerable time mentally.
I realized that browsing socials late at night lead to me falling into comparison traps that never end well. So what I’ve started doing is locking certain apps using my iphone’s built in Screen Time feature.
It’s under Settings and I basically lock my apps during certain times or set timers on how much time I can use those apps (usually in 15 min increments). That way I can be more productive throughout the day, too.
You can still open the app, but when you open it, it reminds you that you shouldn’t be on it. You can click through the notification and ignore it but I’ve been trying to exercise discipline haha.
Good habit #4 :
🌸 Reminding myself that I am loved
I started collecting screenshot of all the kind and loving things all my friends and family have said to me and have been uploading them to my built in Photos app on my iphone.
When I’m doubting myself or feel lonely or sad I read through all of the messages, comments, and written quotes of words from my loved ones. It reminds me that I have a support system who will always be cheering me on.
Good Habit #5 :
🌸 Setting alarms for medicine and work breaks
I should have done this years ago but at least I’m doing it now…? 😂 Lol woops. Anyway, I just use the built in alarm app on my phone and I set each alarm to different “theme songs”
For my work breaks, it plays It’s a Good Time by The DeeKompressors (the song from Disneyland) so I know exactly what time it is 💁🏻♀️ party time!
And for medicine time it plays Heavy by Linkin Park ft. Kiara because the lyrics remind me that I’ll feel sad and my mood will be heavy if I don’t take my medicine on time. When I don’t take my medicine on time my mood goes down and I can’t sleep well so having an alarm reminder is really good for me.
And those are the habits I’ve started! Hopefully I can keep this up and I’ll check back with you guys at the end of the year! I can’t believe we’re already more than halfway through the year! 😱 it’s exciting but also terrifying because there’s still so much left to do and time is passing so quickly! Anyway, thank you for tuning in! I’m glad you could visit. I hope you have a good day!
