Blog post

Hello everyone!

I miss Hawaii and all the yummy foods we had, so I thought I would share them with you guys! So if you’re looking for things to eat when you visit Waikiki, keep reading πŸ™‚

Breakfast

Tempura Udon at Marukame Udon

The broth is delicious and the tempura flakes are really fresh and crispy. They also let you pick your tempura! I got pumpkin tempura (and I forgot what that long white tempura is πŸ˜‚ but it’s some sort of vegetable) and our udon also came with beef and a soft boiled egg. And that egg looked beautiful when we opened it mmmmmmm…… lol. The noodles are also excellent. This is a good spot for lunch or dinner too btw! They open early at 7am so I recommend it as breakfast. Our hotel was right behind Marukame Udon and we’re so happy we tried it on a whim because we were pleasantly surprised. Best udon I’ve ever had.

Mochi donuts at Modo donuts

This cute donut shop is located inside Mitsuwa supermarket in Waikiki. It’s in the mall across from the udon shop! Take the escalator to the second floor and walk into the supermarket and you’ll find Modo Donuts in the back. They had so many yummy flavors and the lilikoi flavor and matcha flavor were my favorite. 10/10. I’ve been trying to find a similar mochi donut shop in California but none of them measure up to Modo. Also, ever since I ate that lilikoi donut I’ve been craving passion fruit. Now I get passion fruit flavored every thing 🀣 the donut was that good guys.

Fresh fruit from supermarket

We saw a lot of fresh fruit at all the supermarkets and even ABC stores. They’re pretty yummy! Try a Hawaiian papaya if you can because they are so good!!

Macadamia nut iced coffee at Island Vintage Coffee

If you go to Hawaii and don’t try macadamia nut foods and drinks what you doin’?? haha. Aaron says his coffee was fresh, nutty and not too strong. They have more than coffee too! Acai and fruit bowls for breakfast are good options too. (This place also has macadamia nut ice-cream, see below in dessert section) Also funny story: There was a seagull that swooped into the store and landed on this tourist’s table and ate all her Acai bowl while she shrieked πŸ˜‚

Lunch/Dinner

Ramen, Sushi, Curry and more at Waikiki Yokocho

When you walk down the steps to this food court it feels like you’re in Japan because of all the decorative restaurants. We didn’t try the food here but one of our favorite Youtubers (David So) ate here and said it was great! A clip of David So is even on one of the TVs at a restaurant here haha.

Food court at Royal Hawaiian Center

There’s a food court in this mall but I was too full of shaved ice from the food stand outside called Island Vintage Shaved Ice (see dessert section below), so I didn’t eat the food in the food court. There’s variety here though so it’s good if your group can’t agree on where to eat. This way everyone can choose their own food from the food court.

Purple rice onigiri at Waikiki Shopping Plaza

This was a yummy snack! I got the salmon flakes flavor.

Dessert

Free cookie samples from Honolulu Cookie Company

“Wait are those free cookies!?” That was my immediate reaction when I saw someone using tongs to scoop out little pineapple shaped cookies at one of the many Honolulu Cookie Company shops. They have a lot of flavors and they’re free so definitely stop by if you come across one! My favorite was the dark chocolate one. I kinda regret not taking some home. There’s no catch btw. You don’t have to purchase anything. I had about 4 cookie samples and then we left with the intention of coming back but we forgot πŸ˜…

Macadamia nut ice cream

I used to eat macadamia nut ice cream when I was growing up on Guam. It’s delicious, refreshing and not too sweet. The nutty flavor tastes so good and I highly recommend that you try macadamia nut ice cream if you never tried it before. This one is from Island Vintage Coffee shop in the Royal Hawaiian Center mall.

Banana ice cream from Banan

This ice cream is made of bananas. If you’ve watched the Japanese reality TV show Terrace House you can see how much bananas they peel a day πŸ˜‚ it’s a lot of bananas. My sister ate the Acai one and she said it was pretty good. I only had a bite but it was a good bite! Also this is a really popular place to go to. If you’re visiting the surfboard alleyway, the Banan shop is in that alleyway too so you should drop by and grab one to snack on while you walk around the Waikiki strip or sit and eat it at the beach, which is just steps away from Banan.

Matcha ice cream with mochi and red bean from Waikiki Yokocho

There’s a shop in Yokocho food court called Nana’s Green Tea and it looked really yummy but we were in a hurry so we didn’t get to try it. This is a really popular area for Japanese tourists though! They have matcha parfaits, matcha soft serve, and more. I really wanted one because it comes with big fat mochi balls 🀀 and they have other flavors too if you don’t like matcha.

Kulu Kulu pastries

These adorable pastries can be found at Kulu Kulu inside the Royal Hawaiian Center food court.

Mango sorbet in a coconut shell from ABC Store

Okay we saw these two girls outside ABC Store eating mango sorbet out of coconut shells and I just had to get one because mmmm mango. It tastes just as good as it looks! The coconut is a fake coconut but it makes a good souviner!

Hangloose pineapple soft serve ice cream at Kokoro Cafe

If you’re eating at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center food court, I recommend going here! I didn’t get to eat it because I had too many sweets already that day, but this is definitely on my bucket list for next time!

Island Vintage Shaved Ice

If I could eat this shaved ice 10 more times I would. They have a little kiosk at each mall we’ve visited in Oahu and each time the shaved ice was delicious. It’s made of fresh fruit, not syrup so it’s really refreshing. The mochi pieces are big too and I love mochi so I paid extra for more chewy goodness. I recommend getting the lychee/strawberry or the lilikoi/strawberry. Lilikoi is passion fruit. They have a Island Vintage Shaved Ice outside the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center.

And that’s all the foods I recommend for Waikiki! I hope this was helpful. If it is, please let me know! It would make me really happy to know that I’m helpful.
